Google sidewiki : With Google sidewiki installed, one can do the following(pre-requisites are a Google account and sidewiki installation):
- Share insights by way of adding comments right from your browser about any web page.
- Read what others have shared as an add-on information.
- Share the same through Social Media accounts.
Google uses some ranking criteria and lists the comments as per an algorithm in real-time. One can subscribe to RSS feed of sidewiki entries to keep track of new entries on any page of a website.
You can take a look at some of the interesting entries here.
This commenting tool allows anyone to add any comment to any page of the website and hence when it comes to Pharma websites, a lot of caution is needed. The positive side is that it makes it social and commenting is much easier than anything I have seen so far and one can highlight the relevant portion related to the comments. The biggest negatives, as I see, are: dealing with incorrect information and the fact that owner has no options. People who comment have to be much more responsible(unlike comments which are overseen) and policies have to be in place at each pharma company concerning if they should mingle in the conversation or not, respond to information that goes around as comments etc..
As a page owner, one can add a special entry called webmaster sidewiki entry, it will remain as the top entry for that page. This is very useful for page owners to give their disclaimers or to caution or to state their stance(policies) with the sidewiki comments.

For Pharma there seem to be more negatives considering the dangers of misinformation. Hence Pharma companies better be pro-active and keep a close watch on Sidewiki entries and how it shapes up and grows. Like or Dislike but Don’t Ignore.
